Jarman Island

The Jarman Island Lighthouse was built to serve the early Port of Cossack, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.The port played an important role in the development of the north-west region.The light at Jarman Island became automated in 1917 and was finally extinguished in May 1985, when it was replaced by the lighthouse at Cape Lambert.Following its closure, the lighthouse began to fall into a state of disrepair. After several years of campaigning, a grant was awarded to the Shire of Roebourne in 2003 for the conservation and restoration of the lighthouse, under the Australian Government’s Regional Tourism Program.

Wonderful place. Full of history
