Beautiful island, birds sanctuary, great for snorkelling, making photos, just great experience. Can see dolphins hunting in shallow water, seals and other fauna.

Easy to paddle there and back on a kayak or surf ski (approximately 20 minutes each way) if you launch from the park with the war memorial. Well worth the trip, an abundance of wildlife and a nice calm bay to swim at or set up a picnic/tent for the day.

Nice little island. The march flies are fierce though away from the beach. Note you cannot access the old lighthouse as the area is a conservation zone.

Some of the most pristine beaches in the world, it's only downfall is the carpark... although it can be quite entertaining to sit & watch people try and negotiate the boat ramp

Very surprised with Garden Island (I am reviewing the tourist spots not the actual Naval Base). We had found a secluded bay where only a few boats were and it was picture-perfect! We were able to hop off the boat and walk to the island in the water. There is so much to sew from little caves to different type of marine life. We haven't visited Herring Bay yet but am more inclined to do so after this recent visit!
